Holiday Spirit of Thankfulness and Joy!

Hello All!

We at Yes I Am wanted to update you on our darling little brunch for widows! We do a lot of talking about "loving tangibly" and about being the church, but this Thanksgiving, we actually put those words into action. Hosted at Monroe Church of God, the Yes I Am team cooked up a toasty warm meal and treated the local widows to a love-fest getaway. We had the most wonderful tender time celebrating these God-honored women. Carrie was kind enough to sing a few tunes as well, and we all got a taste of the sweet seasons of age and wisdom. So many of these women were excited to vocalize their faith in God and the joy in knowing the truth of God's faithfulness!

God and the Widow

Psalm 68:5 says, "Father of orphans, Champion of widows, is God in His holy house."

Consider Anna the prophetess in Luke 2, a widow devoted to prayer and fasting. Upon seeing Jesus, she was among the first to speak of the child who was to bring redemption to Israel.

1 Kings 17—God used the widow of Zarephath to feed the prophet Elijah during the time of famine. Her obedience is a great example of faith even in the face of starvation.

Did you know that the first church council (elders, deacons) in the New Testament (Acts 6:1-6) was established to care for the widows?

Jesus, himself, used a widow to demonstrate true sacrifice. The widow’s mite is one of the most powerful examples of giving in the body of Christ.

James 1:27 tells us, "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

The Shunammite widow in 2 Kings 4 tells of the widow’s plea to Elisha the prophet. The incident teaches us that even though we think we have nothing to offer—in her case only a little bit of oil—God can use small things to supply our needs above and beyond what we ask.

1 Timothy 5―The scripture tells us to "honor the widows.” We often see widows as victims not as victors. We must allow widows to take their place in the Kingdom work.

Do you want the ministries in your life to be blessed? Deuteronomy 14:29 tells us: ". . . the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands."

Wow! What a promise!

We snagged a few shots of Maisey (YesIAm's namesake!!) serving our women of virtue of the House of God, and a few of Carrie during her devotion and serenades! These women are cherished and were a joy to spend the day with.
