Motion & Tools

Hey guys,

Thanks for taking time to visit the blog! It's been a while since the last post but so many great things are going on and it's hard to keep up really. As you know "Forever Mine" released on Valentine's day this year and it's been a real treat to share this song with my parents and have it on the radio to share with so many. Thanks to the Bull Atlanta 94.9FM for believing in local artists. It's really sad to say but there aren't many radio stations that will open the door for local, un-signed artists. This is something that needs to change don't ya think? So, a huge shout out is in order for Backyard Country! Also, a % of sales from this song goes to help Operation RECON to help our wounded soldiers get back on their feet.
Here's a link: http://roeverfoundation.org/project.php?id=12&tab=-1

Btw, you can still vote to keep it playing!! Go to this link: http://www.949thebull.com/pages/byc_voting.html
Feel free to vote as many times as your fingers feel like it!

Motion ---

The Lord is stirring in my heart such MOTION - to keep moving forward in music evangelism - simply put - to be a light in the darkness. There's nothing like celebrating & loving Jesus through loving others. So, whatever we do, on job - off job - let the light of Christ shine so that people will see Jesus' love radiate in every area of life.

Tools ---

Music is a relationship opener. It connects people to one another & helps create common bonds. I'm seeing this tool as a way that not only reaches & pleases the Father's heart in worship but also connects our hearts to one another. God is glorified when we walk in unity and to me, music is an important element of connection. I'm praying for wisdom in how I use these God given tools more effectively for His kingdom expansion & glory. Please pray for me.

Last night we sang at Eddie's Attic for the songwriter's open mic. There was such diversity and to think that God created each and everyone, with stories & skill just blew my mind in amazement at our awesome God, Creator. Cindi Hall & Ryan & Ashley White went with me and they both are precious, gifted people with hearts for God & people. It was a joy to have them by my side. Having Brad with me, supporting me, believing in me is just precious to my heart on every level. He is the sweetest! Pray for Him because he leaves this Sunday for Africa. Even though I can't physically go with him, my heart is fully there - above & beyond. I am so proud of him and believe God's best & favor over his life as the spiritual leader of our home.

God, may you continue to stir in us compassion for souls in MOTION with the TOOLS you've given us to get the job done!

Thank you for reading and God bless,

Carrie ~ xoxoxoxoxo

{I love you mama & daddy} Forever Mine

This Valentine's Day...
~Forever Mine~ on iTunes

Beautiful New Beginnings...

Hosea 6

1 “Come, let us return to the LORD.
He has torn us to pieces
but he will heal us;
he has injured us
but he will bind up our wounds.
2 After two days he will revive us;
on the third day he will restore us,
that we may live in his presence.
3 Let us acknowledge the LORD;
let us press on to acknowledge him.
As surely as the sun rises,
he will appear;
he will come to us like the winter rains,
like the spring rains that water the earth.”

So excited to announce that last night Brad and I renewed our wedding vows!

I am so amazed by the faithfulness of our God for the work & process of restoring our marriage after a very long, painful separation. We are grateful for all the prayers, words of encouragement, cards, letters, messages, you have sent to lift us up over the last few years. We are so humbled by the love of our families, friends, church family & our pastors. God is to be praised! He deserves the glory and credit!
AND It's so neat how the Lord works!
Last year I heard about Valentine Vows through 104.7 The Fish and I thought it would be really special to do do this and have a private concert afterwards...(since I love music and yes, I'm a sucker for love!)

Well, this year WE WON! We had a blast and it was very much out of the "traditional" box but that's just like us! The ceremony was at Lake Lanier Islands Resort in the Grand Hall and it was beautiful!

The speaker spoke about how our words can bring life to the dry, dead bones of our marriage. Our words can give the bones flesh again as well as our words can give breath to the bones to live again. Little did the speaker know, but that story in Ezeikel has been one that I have held close to my heart for my marriage for a long time. It was as if God did a recap over the last few years just for me to remind me all that He has spoken to my heart. I was truly overwhelmed. His promise is SURE.
We said our vows and it really was a beautiful, holy moment. Then they gave us a private concert with Shawn MacDonald. One of the first songs he sang was the song "Rise". This song was so appropriate for us because on this restoration journey with every step forward, we are rising together out of the ashes of the past!
After the concert came the cake! Here's a photo...it was yummy too!
We are so excited about our wonderful God who loves us and carries us through the storm. We are so thankful He held us together and holds us as we allow HIm to rebuild our lives together again -- ALL FOR HIS GLORY!
Thanks for reading and be encouraged...Don't give up! Trust God and let His light lead and guide you!
I love you and and appreciate you!

"Rise"
by Shawn MacDonald

[Chorus]
Yes I will rise
Out of these ashes rise
From this trouble I have found
And this rubble on the ground
I will rise
Cause He Who is in me
Is greater than I will ever be
And I will rise

Sometimes my heart is on the ground
And hope is nowhere to be found
Love is a figment I once knew
And yet I hold on to what I know is true

[Chorus]
Yes I will rise
Out of these ashes rise
From this trouble I have found
And this rubble on the ground
I will rise
Cause He Who is in me
Is greater than I will ever be
And I will rise

Well I keep on coming to this place
That I don't know quite how to face
So I lay down my life in hopes to die
That somehow I might rise

[Chorus]
Yes I will rise
Out of these ashes rise
From this trouble I have found
And this rubble on the ground
I will rise
Cause He Who is in me
Is greater than I will ever be
And I will rise

Backyard Country Voting for "It's Your Turn (LeeAnn's Song)"

Backyard Country Voting: Atlanta's Most Country Guaranteed! 94.9 The Bull

Hey everyone,
I wrote a song for a dear friend of mine, LeeAnn, many years ago called, "It's Your Turn" and sang it to her the night before she got married. Since then, I've sang it in several weddings and will be singing it again on March 31st at Patty & Brent's wedding. I hope you enjoy the song as it celebrates the gift of love & marriage. I was so honored to have John Johnson of Johnson Brothers Studio sing with me. He has a beautiful, smooth voice that made it extra nice and he's really funny. So, singing with John is just a real hoot! Hope you enjoy it!

Don't forget my new single, "Forever MIne" releases on Valentine's Day on iTunes, Amazon & CDbaby AND John is singing with me on this one too! You're gonna love it (i hope)!!!

Thanks for voting to keep "It's Your Turn" on the radio...I really appreciate all the love & support!!

Forever Mine ~ More than Music

Hey friends & family, here's a sneak peak of what's to come on Valentine's day....my new single, "Forever Mine"...it's a snippet of my parent's story...take a look & listen here:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrR4OiHVFbs&list=UUcwfc5pHcY1AIt-LuOS4y5A&index=1&feature=plcp

The song will be available on iTunes 2/14/12 and a percentage of the proceeds will go to Dave Roever's Ministry called Wounded Warriors.

Check out how this ministry is making a big difference with helping our soldiers.

Wounded Warriors is dedicated to rebuilding self esteem, confidence, financial freedom and family relationships in our wounded warriors by providing a one week program that includes mentoring, educational opportunities and participation in public speaking forums at Eagles Summit Ranch.

• Certificate Program includes private mentoring & group class time instruction with Dave Roever & Matt Roever, and other RLRC graduates.

• University Program includes internet courses, accredited through Southwestern Assemblies of God University and Colorado State University - Pueblo.

• The accommodations at ESR Colorado are limited, thus providing intense training and personal one-on-one tutoring with the presenters.

• Family Camp offers the entire family (all ages) to come together for a week long camp experience, filled with hands-on learning, fun, and family time!

Many of our participants come in search of themselves and do not know what to do with their lives after the traumatic experiences of war. In addition to the classes, the wounded warriors and their families are provided encouragement and time to adjust to the challenges in their lives.

Their Story....Forever Mine....

Every year since my parents were married in August of 1967, my daddy continues to give my mama the same Valentine's Day card with a new date & a new love note inside declaring his love all over again and again. To me, this kind of love overture is very sweet & sentimental. It's "their" bit of nostalgia.

These are the kinds of treasures I want to always keep tucked in my heart & memory about my parent's love for one another. In fact, before they were married, he was away in Vietnam and wrote her a sweet, tiny song & recorded it on a little, yellow record. You'll be hearing more about this later....

I have been wanting to do something extra special to celebrate my parents love & commitment for Valentine's Day this year. So, on Feb. 14th, I'm releasing the song, "Forever Mine". It's their story....AND it's a surprise...so please don't tell them!! I'll be sure to catch them on video when they have their first listen....stay tuned : )
I would so appreciate it if you would help me get the word out to your family & friends....THANK YOU!!

Much love xoxooxoxo,

Carrie

Song Story Part 10

Okay, so here's the last song story for the last song on the album...

Only to Be...

But before I begin, don't forget if you become the 40th blog follower, you win a COLOR CD!! And be sure to order your tickets online at www.carriebowen.com for the CD release party on Friday, Oct. 7th, at 7pm. (only 15 more days)

Okay....

Only to Be...

I would describe this song as the one I literally had to wait on...in more ways than one. I knew I wanted to write one more song to "complete" the album because it just didn't feel, well, complete. With the help of Kennedy and Katie, we were able to give the song some wings. Thank you gals~

The last line of the song references love as a fairlead. In nautical terms, a fairlead is the ring in which 2 ropes pass together to prevent friction for the directional purposes of the sail. We all know that without a sail, the ship wouldn't move across the water. I'm learning more and more everyday that in order for a marriage to thrive in forward motion, the two must allow the Holy Spirit to shape the fairlead in which the two pass through to not only prevent friction but create oneness and harmony - going in the same direction all for His glory.

Only to Be
by Carrie Bowen, Kennedy Melton & Katie Melton

I tried real hard to forget all the things that were said
The moments of thinking that we wouldn't make it - all the regrets
Everything was broken
We were left holding shattered pieces of our heart
Only to be

What would we do with out eachother now I understand
I'm finding my way, your finding your way
Two drifters on the map
Even though like islands
We found our consolation
underneath the messes that were made
Only to be

But I'm still holding my breath
A little in disbelief if I'm honest
If you had one question
I'd do it all again

So here we are together one foot in front of the other
Standing on the edge
Let's take the leap before us and see where it lands us
I know that we can do this
I'd rather have our story and now its new beginning
And live this life with you
Only to be

I'm still holding my breath
A little in disbelief if I'm honest
If you have one question
The answer is still yes

You take my breath away
With every single risk you take
The fairlead of our love is saved
Only to be

Song Story Part 9

I CANNOT believe that the Color album releases in 19 days!!! What a journey!! Whew............

I hope to see each of you at the release party!!! That would be so great!!! We're gonna have a FUN time so come on out for a night of "coffee-house" relaxation and sweet tunes!! You can get tickets online at www.carriebowen.com for only $5...what a cheap date night guys!!! Thanks for your love and support --- it really does mean alot : )

Btw, I want to give away a free COLOR CD to blog follower #40.....ready, set, go!

Well, here we are on song #9. (just one more to go)
I have to admit, I did a rewrite for this song and literally finished it with new, fresh lyrics in hand the night before recording final vocals. I really like how this tune turned out because I feel it paints a nice picture of how love is something we have to cultivate and grow. One friend said it to me like this, "Love is like a garden. Your actions & words are like seeds and one day you will harvest that which you've planted all along." This is something to think about isn't it?

Since being back home in Monroe, I've had the blessing of watching my daddy harvest his garden up close. The time and care he gives to this lot of land is something special to behold. I've watched his aging hands pick, wash & peel all sorts of veggies with care to savor each part of his crop. I've watched him can and freeze his crops for hours upon hours so that the frig is full, the shelves are stocked, the freezer is slam-packed. I've watched him cook meals for the family and I've seen how his eyes sparkle when everyone's tummy is full and the compliments of "this is soooo good" fill the air. I've seen him sweat and garden to the point his shirts were soaking wet and dirty. AND I've watched him give his harvest away to bless someone in need.

Love is alot like this. The question is, is love worth it? Yes, I believe it is. Thank you daddy for showing me how to work hard for what belongs to you and what you believe in. I'm not afraid to get in the dirt and work for one day, a promised harvest is the reward.

You & Me
Words & Music by Carrie Bowen

Verse 1
I feel it in the warm sunshine after a summer rain, cultivating conversations
It's in the everyday today mundane doing life this way where love fills out its branches
Cause I have heard the future in the sound of our laughter

Chorus
We gotta let this love grow
You and me like a little seed in the dirt below
Waiting I believe we'll see it through
You're for me and I'm for You
Like a big oak tree
A love so strong You and me

2nd verse
So I'm holding out my heart for you to make it yours
Like a child I am waiting on the edge of my seat
There's a bigger picture in store let's watch it unfold
You know I still believe in us
Cause I have seen the future
You and me together stronger

Bridge
We're on our way ya know
Hand in hand heart to heart
Giving all that we are for love

Song Story Part 8

Happy Friday everyone!!
Thanks for taking the time to read this little bloggie : )

Here is song story #8...."It's Your Turn (LeeAnn's Song)"...

As you can see, I wrote this song for my friend, LeeAnn. She and I have a long seasoned-history of friendship...from meeting at church camp to Emmanuel College, to Lee University, to singing in a band, to phone calls, birthday cards, lunch dates, to married life, to having our own families. We go WAY back and I love her dearly. I wrote this song and sang it to her at her shower on the night before she married Shane (her sweet husband that I totally take credit for in introducing the two of them because I just knew that went together like chips and dip!) HA!! They are a sweet couple who love the Lord and have two beautiful children. I will never forget the night I sang it to her. She cried, I cried, we all cried! She had waited for the love of her life and her day to become His was a dream come true.

I have had the honor of singing this in several weddings over the years and with each couple it seems to get sweeter and sweeter. When we recorded this, I knew I wanted to have John Johnson sing it with me. His voice is so great ya'll....no joke! I think it turned out quite lovely and a little folk-country...which fits.

Make sure you're at the CD release because we're planning something really special for this song....

It's Your Turn (LeeAnn's Song)
W&M by Carrie Bowen

It's your turn to be loved
It's your turn to dance in the sunlight
You've waited so long now your day has finally come
It's your turn

It's your turn to laugh
It's your turn to cry
And learn all the reasons why God placed you together for the rest of your lives
It's your turn

So make each moment last while they're hear
Cherish each second they pass so fast
It's your turn to be loved

So don't be afraid take his hand
Dance in the moonlight and remember when
Love tapped you on the shoulder and asked for your hand
It's your turn

So, here's the first song story....

When Love Comes Back
By Carrie Bowen & Katie Melton

I woke up one morning with these words "little fingers reaching upward, pulling down realities covers, with 'good morning' kisses, 'I love you' whispers". I immediately grabbed a piece of scratch paper and used my pillow to brace the lyrics as they began to flow. I had been following one of my friends blogs who had recently lost his wife. His story impacted my life on so many levels. His words were emotional and ever so transparent. I would literally read his grief-stricken words and sob. How will he and his little girl recover from this emptiness? How? My heart broke for him & his daughter and all I could do was pray.

I didn't lose my husband to death, but our marriage was dead so a part of my heart could relate just a tiny bit to what my friend was feeling. I wondered how we could ever recover from this brokenness? How?

As the song came together, I knew this was a song of "working through" the process of the fact that one day, love would come back. Deep inside, despite how I felt, I believed love would return. Today my friend has been found by love again and he is about to be married. I'm so thankful that God is good and He really does care for us. His word says that He will not forsake us. This means He will not FORGET us. Even in the most painful, broken, wounded places of our hearts, God is restoration and in Him our love and hope remains secure.

My sweet niece Katie helped me write this song and she was a great sounding board for the grammatical challenges I still face with writing. She better be good at writing since she is at Emmanuel College studying to be an English teacher! Ha! So proud of you Katie! Thank you for pounding through this with me. The looks you gave me were priceless! AND thanks for going to the studio with me on that first day!

This was the first song I wrote when I moved back home to Monroe and was the first song I recorded at Johnson Brothers Studio. I played it on piano and cried. From that day forward, I knew this was the rebirth of purpose and a resurrecting of a dream that had died. I'm now on a musical journey that has been so fun and full of life. So, I had to make this the first song on the album because it's the right thing to do. I hope you'll let the song inspire you to believe in LOVE again and put your hope in a God who will walk with you through the valley of the shadow of death to the other side where love is.

Thanks for reading...

When Love Comes Back

Vs. 1
Little fingers reaching upward
Pulling down realities covers
With "Good morning" kisses, "I love you" whispers

Our stories become dream-like sequences
Waiting for response
Just a glimpse, a flicker of you

PRE-CHORUS
My light, my love
Suspended between here and up

CHORUS
When love comes back again
I'll hear our song again
A distant lulaby over the clouds
I'll see your smile again
I'm lost in love again
My heart will beat again somehow
My heart will beat again somehow

VS. 2
Unlocked tears water the earth
I shout, I scream my prayers cresendo
Do you hear this cry?
You will not stay silent I know

BRIDGE
I hold tight to the song of You
Every memory brings me back to truth
The song of You is the song of love
Heavenly melodies are joining us

Crab Apple Tree

TO EVERYTHING there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose
under heaven...

On my way to the mailbox this afternoon I noticed it. The big open space in the front yard of my parents house was very much out of place. There inside that strange openness, once stood the most magical, lush, twisted-limbed, crab-apple tree in all of Campton, GA! And now, nothing. This tree was a landmark in my childhood.
It was "base" in the game of freeze tag for us kids and it was the place where my daddy & I took my absolute favorite photo that I have framed. It is a great picture! I was about 7 or 8 years old, hanging from a limb, dangling over my daddy's shoulders. Both of our hair was a mess but we didn't care, we were loving life!

It was there in that tree I would play & hide for hours. In the summertime we would gather the small, tangy-tart crab apples for pies and boy did that tree produce! A few years back, an ice storm hit our little town pretty hard and caused the old tree to slowly die. Today as the bulldozer removed the remains of the stump and limbs, my heart ached and I cried. Am I really crying over a tree? I asked myself. Truthfully, it's the memories the tree holds & symbolizes. On a deeper level, it's the fact that you think the tree will always be there and over time something changes and it's gone. It's the reality that life & circumstances are ever-changing and this is never easy to face. My daddy told me today the tree was dead all the way to the root and it
was very easy to remove. I thought about this for a while so I guess that's why I'm processing tonight.

It's the same with our heavenly Father. If we let Him, Jesus will remove all the dead, fruitless places in our hearts so that we can fully become all He desires for us to be for His glory & purpose. His ways are higher - a lot like the new openness to the front yard. It doesn't seem or feel like it used to but there is a new, clearer perspective and a brighter future. So as the world shifts and changes, we can trust Jesus to hold us in His peace. I will always remember the good, warm and fuzzy memories of my childhood in the front yard, running bare feet as fast as my legs would go around the crab apple tree; however, I am old enough now to know that I have to let it go. Even in the midst of changing circumstances, I must keep walking forward and daily yield to His presence as He fills all the spaces inside my heart with His unchanging love for me.

Thanks for reading!
Blessings,
Carrie

Psalm 42:8

"By day the LORD directs his love, at night his song is with me--a prayer to the God of my life."

Hungry?

Have you ever been hungry? I mean REALLY hungry; so hungry that you literally ached?

Have you ever wanted to feed someone else, but knew that you didn't really have the money? Or maybe you've wanted to feed those people you see on the commercials with the distended bellies but you knew you'd probably never get to go all the way to their country. Has that ever happened?

Visit the Hunger Site. Just by clicking on the yellow button (which costs you nothing but a few seconds of your time) you can generate the funds from sponsors to provide staple foods through Mercy Corps, Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest), and Millennium Promise. Every cent that is paid by sponsors to advertise on the Hunger Site's page goes to these charitable partners. Funds are divided between the partners and their projects and are able to feed hungry people in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and North America.

"The Hunger Site was founded to focus the power of the Internet on a specific humanitarian need: the eradication of world hunger. Since its launch in June 1999, the site has established itself as a leader in online activism, helping to feed the world's hungry. On average, over 220,000 individuals from around the world visit the site each day to click the yellow 'Click Here to Give - it's FREE' button. To date, more than 300 million visitors have given more than 671 million cups of staple food." (taken from their How Does the Hunger Site Work? section).

The Hunger Site also offers a myriad of other ways to help. One is to visit the Hunger Site Store where the shipping is always $3.95 and you always have the option to show your support and spread the word. The Hunger Site Store also offers items that have been fairly-traded and various handcrafted items from across our world to help generate funding to pull families and communities out of the poverty and hunger cycle.

You know you're gonna shop and you KNOW you're gonna peruse the internet. Why not do it with love in mind?
