Who
doesn’t want a Hippopotamus for Christmas?
Come on! Really?!
We
all know how much Maisey loves hippos & rhinos & dinos…so we had to
cover the Hippo song
especially for her.
Just a little history:
“I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" is a
Christmas novelty song
written by John Rox (1902–1957) and performed by Gayla Peevey (10 years old
at the time) in 1953. The song peaked at number 24 on Billboard
magazine's pop chart in December 1953.
And believe it or not, Gayla Peevey ended up getting a real, live Hippopotamus for Christmas in which she gave it to the local zoo.
(now I wonder why she'd go and do that?)
We
had a blast recording this song. As you
can hear, we mixed the old & the new. Then we added a little 3-part, vintage- “Andrew
Sisters” -harmony with a little hip-hop beat (per Maisey). And of course we had to add kazoo & some crazy stuff...after all, it's a song about a HIPPO! After Maisey heard it for the first time she
said, “Thank you, Mama. I really love
it.” This song is a very fun, silly song
to sing and I hope the kid inside of you enjoys it as much as we do!
Maisey's first Christmas
