The Mermaid Mingle Listening Party

The Mermaid Mingle / Listening Party  — Food, Music and Art For A Good Cause

Two local artists, one visual and the other musical, are teaming up to provide a monthly event that combines food, music and art to create an evening of fun while supporting a worthy cause.

Carrie Bowen, local song writer and musician, and Jami Wright, owner of The Funky Mermaid Art Studio and Gift Boutique will be sponsoring The Mermaid Mingle to support and raise awareness of a different charity each month.

Wright, who recently relocated to Monroe, loves the small town atmosphere of the community, but felt that the town lacked options for entertainment, so she came up with the idea of offering an alternative to ‘dinner and a movie’ ...The Mermaid Mingle. It’s a party where you bring an appetizer to share, and everyone gets a chance to mingle, meet new friends, enjoy good food, and then spend some hands on time in the art studio being creative.

“Then one day Carrie walked into the studio,” said Wright, “and we started talking about all of the fun and exciting classes, workshops and art parties happening here, and Carrie starts telling me about the album she is recording, and how a portion of the proceeds from her music will go to help various charities. And before you know it, we are bubbling over with ideas about how we can offer a way for people to have fun by merging art and music for a good cause.”

Each Mermaid Mingle will focus on raising awareness of a specific cause and feature an original song release played at the event with the cumulation of songs resulting in an album. After munching appetizers and relaxing to live music, guests will spend some time in the art studio creating a piece of art, pottery or jewelry, depending on the project planned for that particular event.

The first Mermaid Mingle will is planned for June 29th from 7-9pm and will focus on raising awareness of I Care 4, a charity that intervenes in the lives of women and children who have been sexually exploited. For more information about this organization, visit http://www.i-care4.org

Carrie will be singing her first release of the Birds in Branches album, Little Bird, and Jami will be teaching a handbuilding pottery lesson on how to sculpt a bird.
