Well, here we are on song #9. (just one more to go)
I have to admit, I did a rewrite for this song and literally finished it with new, fresh lyrics in hand the night before recording final vocals. I really like how this tune turned out because I feel it paints a nice picture of how love is something we have to cultivate and grow. One friend said it to me like this, "Love is like a garden. Your actions & words are like seeds and one day you will harvest that which you've planted all along." This is something to think about isn't it?
Since being back home in Monroe, I've had the blessing of watching my daddy harvest his garden up close. The time and care he gives to this lot of land is something special to behold. I've watched his aging hands pick, wash & peel all sorts of veggies with care to savor each part of his crop. I've watched him can and freeze his crops for hours upon hours so that the frig is full, the shelves are stocked, the freezer is slam-packed. I've watched him cook meals for the family and I've seen how his eyes sparkle when everyone's tummy is full and the compliments of "this is soooo good" fill the air. I've seen him sweat and garden to the point his shirts were soaking wet and dirty. AND I've watched him give his harvest away to bless someone in need.
Love is alot like this. The question is, is love worth it? Yes, I believe it is. Thank you daddy for showing me how to work hard for what belongs to you and what you believe in. I'm not afraid to get in the dirt and work for one day, a promised harvest is the reward.
You & Me
Words & Music by Carrie Bowen
Verse 1
I feel it in the warm sunshine after a summer rain, cultivating conversations
It's in the everyday today mundane doing life this way where love fills out its branches
Cause I have heard the future in the sound of our laughter
Chorus
We gotta let this love grow
You and me like a little seed in the dirt below
Waiting I believe we'll see it through
You're for me and I'm for You
Like a big oak tree
A love so strong You and me
2nd verse
So I'm holding out my heart for you to make it yours
Like a child I am waiting on the edge of my seat
There's a bigger picture in store let's watch it unfold
You know I still believe in us
Cause I have seen the future
You and me together stronger
Bridge
We're on our way ya know
Hand in hand heart to heart
Giving all that we are for love
